Barbecue Sauce

Sweet, spicy, tangy sauce for summer barbecues


Ingredients

3 cloves garlic

1 yellow onion, sliced

2 cups ketchup

1/2 cup butter, salted

1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp pepper

1 tsp red chili flakes

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/4 tsp paprika

1 lemon, juiced


Directions

Puree the onion and garlic until smooth. Add the vegetables to the ketchup and set aside. Melt the butter in a small sauce pan. Mix in the ketchup mixture. Add the vinegar, lemon juice and brown sugar. Stir in remaining spices. Simmer over medium-low heat for 30 minutes. Move the cooked sauce back to the food processor and blend until well-combined and smooth. Serve warm or refrigerate for up to two weeks.
